About me

Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann has been professor of sports science in the training-integrated bachelor's degree program in physiotherapy at the Leverkusen campus of the SRH University of Health since January 2016.

After completing his teacher training studies (secondary levels II/I) in sports science, social sciences and English at the University of Bielefeld, Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science there. During this time, he worked on a research project on health promotion through physical activity and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science in 1995 (Dr. phil., summa cum laude) with a dissertation on "Fitness training as health training".

This was followed by many years of work in the field of prevention and health promotion in the management of AOK NORDWEST in Dortmund and at the AOK-Bundesverband in Berlin. In these functions, Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann was responsible for the development, quality assurance and evaluation of target group-specific interventions and strategies for exercise-related prevention and health promotion. Furthermore, he led several research projects on the promotion of individual and public health (Public Health) as well as on digital prevention and rehabilitation aftercare (e.g. of back pain).

In addition to his work at the AOK, Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann has been a lecturer at various universities (Bielefeld, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, Karlsruhe) and non-university institutions (including the Association of Physical Therapy).

In 2007, Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) with a paper on "Public Health and Health Sports" and was appointed as a private lecturer (granting of the venia legendi for the subject of sports science). This was followed in 2012 by his appointment as an associate professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Tiemann is a member of numerous scientific advisory boards and expert committees, including those of the German Federal Ministry of Health (BMG), the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB), as well as an assessor on the board of the German Walking Institute (DWI) and, since 2019, an elected member of the Executive Committee of the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA).
