Prof. Dr. Dr. Philipp Plugmann has been Professor of Interdisciplinary Periodontology and Prevention in the Bachelor of Dental Hygiene program at the Leverkusen Campus of the SRH University of Health since February 1, 2020.
After studying dentistry at the University of Cologne and passing the state examination in 2000, he obtained his doctorate in 2005, while working to establish a practice, at the University Hospital of Cologne in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In addition, while working, he completed the multi-year doctoral program in Medical Sciences (grade: very good) at the Private University of the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL) in 2013.
He holds a Master of Science in Periodontology and Implant Therapy from DGParo (grade 1.6), Master of Business Administration with a focus on Health Care Management and Master of Science in Business Innovation. In total, he has published 90 papers in the fields of dentistry, innovation and technology and edited 10 books in German and English. His first book on future trends in medical technology was reviewed in 2012 by CISCO, a major US technology company. His second book in 2018, "Designing Innovation Environments," published by Springer Gabler Verlag, had more than 100,000 chapter downloads in the first 30 months.
During his 22-year dental career, he has also founded 2 companies involved in prevention and healthcare services, development of surgical software for dental operations, and digital technologies. He has presented research results on healthcare innovation at conferences including Harvard University (USA), Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (Munich), and Nanyang Tech University (Singapore). Parallel to his practice, Prof. Dr. Dr. Philipp Plugmann was active for 12 years at universities in Karlsruhe, Cologne and Bielefeld, where he was also able to supervise master's theses as a supervisor and first examiner. 2007 - 2016 he was a lecturer in the field of innovations at the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe - Technik und Wirtschaft and was awarded by the rector for outstanding teaching.
Since 2013, he has been a Research Fellow at the University Dental Clinic Marburg in the Department of Periodontology and has also been awarded there for outstanding commitment due to his case reports, lectures and international research presentations.
