Your course content

What you will learn

From A, like anxiety, to C, like compulsion.

The demands on our mental health at work and in our private lives are enormous, and mental illnesses have been on the rise for years. Statistically, every second to third person in Germany is now affected by a mental illness in the course of his or her life. At the same time, mental disorders often have serious consequences - for the individual, but also for society. Most efforts, however, focus on restoring mental health after an illness. Considerations of how to preserve and promote this, our most precious asset, in advance are not yet established in many people's minds. In contrast, our master's program does not focus solely on treating mental disorders; rather, it focuses on maintaining and promoting our mental health.

Therefore, during your studies, we will show you how to promote and strengthen people's mental health from the very beginning. Therefore, the master's program includes not only an in-depth study of basic psychological disciplines, but also predominantly practice-oriented modules in clinical psychology and methods of counseling and psychotherapy. Strengthening mental health, for example, plays an important role in workplace health promotion, but also in many other areas of application. So let's start exploring the human psyche together.

Your multifaceted master's degree program will enable you to work in various professional contexts in both the prevention and rehabilitation of mental illness. During your studies you will deal with the topics of mental health and psychotherapy from a scientific and critical reflective point of view and learn to transfer psychological theories and findings from research and practice to different fields of action and application. This will enable you not only to understand the feelings, thoughts and actions of your patients, but also to explain and change them. Based on this valuable knowledge, a variety of different fields of application in the area of health promotion are open to you and give you the chance to bring about a decisive change in the lives of many people.

However, within society not only the pressure on professional and private life is increasing, but also civilization diseases such as obesity and diabetes are gaining in importance in this context - and thus the field of medical psychology. An important part of your studies is therefore also concerned with the way in which those affected deal with such somatic illnesses. You will learn to provide professional psychological support in order to reduce the negative consequences of illness and to support people in their development.

Furthermore, you will be able to develop concepts of action for selected problem situations and to align them methodically as well as work-organizationally to the selected forms of care and to solve complex problems innovatively, evidence-based and methodically confidently in dialogue, taking into account the conditions.

YOUR PERSPECTIVES

Innovative thinking that pays off

After completing your studies, a wide range of career opportunities are open to you. You can choose to specialize in mental health, psychotherapy or methodology. At the same time, the path to an academic career and doctorate opens up to you, which you can take up following your master's degree.

  • This Master does not correspond to the Master according to the new Psychotherapists Act and does not lead to licensure. If you have started/completed your Bachelor's degree within the transitional rule before 30.09.2020, the above-mentioned therapy training in the KJP area (see first point) is open to you with the Master's degree.
  • Numerous other professional perspectives outside of therapy training are open to you, e.g.: Work as a psychologist in the acute care of mentally ill people, psychological counseling in your own practice (private), coaching offers, further training as a systemic consultant or in the field of legal psychology, etc. (you can find your further perspectives at our health university in our career section).
  • According to the new psychotherapist law you need a polyvalent bachelor's degree and a university master's degree, which leads to the licensing examination. If you would like to work as a psychotherapist in private practice within the framework of statutory health care after the licensing examination, you will still need an expected five years of further training following your master's degree.

With enthusiasm for your success

"Personally, it gives me great pleasure to accompany prospective colleagues through this degree program. The Master's in Mental Health and Psychotherapy offers enough space and opportunities for personal development. Moreover, it is nice to see how preferences and possibilities emerge from unclear professional goals and career aspirations in the course of the studies. Due to the variety of topics and the small study groups, students acquire comprehensive skills in a short period of time. The latest graduate survey shows that our graduates are in demand in the job market."

Prof. Dr. Katharina Wick, Director of Studies

I enjoyed studying at SRH Hochschule für Gesundheit so much because the lectures are very practical, we are like a family and we were able to learn better and more in small groups, so it was just fun to study here.

Your financing

As a state-recognized, private university, the SRH Hochschule für Gesundheit is financed by tuition fees. These revenues are used for the equipment of our campus, the service for our students and the quality assurance. In this way, we ensure that you receive the best possible education under optimal study conditions.

Tuition fees

  • 550 € / per month (total: 13.650 €)

The monthly fee remains the same throughout the entire period of study. The one-time enrollment fee is 450.00 EUR and is due 4 weeks before the start of your studies. Except for the placement, aptitude or equivalency exam, if applicable, no separate exam fees or similar are charged, not even for repeat exams. This gives you maximum cost transparency during your studies. If you extend your studies beyond the standard period of study, fees will also be charged, as the university's offer will continue to be used. If only the final thesis of the course is still outstanding, the fees are reduced by 50%.
