About me

Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sänger has been a professor in the bachelor's and master's degree program in medical education at the SRH University of Health Gera Campus since October 1, 2015.

After studying engineering at the Ilmenau University of Technology in the field of technical cybernetics and automation technology with a specialization in biomedical technology and bionics, Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sänger first worked as a laboratory engineer at the Jena University Hospital and then took over the coordination of the Tumor Center Jena e.V. She established a clinical cancer registry and acquired funding for a field study on regional oncological care for patients with breast cancer.

While working, she studied health sciences / public health at the University of Bielefeld and completed this study with a master's degree and a doctorate. Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sänger also completed a part-time correspondence course in journalism at the Freie Journalistenschule Berlin and training as a therapeutic humor consultant at the HCDA Academy (HumorCare Germany Austria).

Further professional stations were the activity as a managing director of the working group for internal oncology in the German cancer society registered association, the management of the patient information department at the Medical Center for Quality in Medicine (a joint institute of the German Medical Association and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, based in Berlin), the establishment and management of the GesundheitsUni Jena (an educational institution for citizens) at the University Hospital Jena and the management of press and public relations for psychenet - Hamburg Mental Health Network at the Institute and Polyclinic for Medical Psychology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf.

Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sänger is a founding member and member of the board of the German Network for Health Literacy (Deutsches Netzwerk Gesundheitskompetenz e.V.), a member of the board of the Thuringia State Association for Health Promotion (Landesvereinigung für Gesundheitsförderung Thüringen e.V.), a member of the scientific advisory board of patientengeschichten.online and a member of the scientific advisory board of "Washabich?" gemeinnützige GmbH.

For her achievements in the field of patient participation and creation of guideline- and evidence-based patient information, Prof. Dr. Sylvia Sänger was awarded the Medal of Honor of the German Medical Profession by the President of the German Medical Association.
