About me

Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Kretzschmar has been Professor of Health Services Research at the SRH University of Applied Sciences since January 01, 2019.

After studying human medicine at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena, he also successfully completed his doctorate (Dr. med.) subsequently in 1987.

Subsequently, he trained as a specialist in pharmacology and toxicology. In 1990, he was a visiting scientist at the Physiological Institute of the University of Kuopio (Finland). From 1992 to 1993, Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Kretschmar at the FSU in Jena in the subject of pharmacology and toxicology.

He became a research fellow at the Department of Anesthesiology at FSU Jena and established the Department of Experimental Anesthesiology.

In the years from 1995 to 2004, he was employed as a senior physician at the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy as well as department head of anesthesiology and deputy to the head physician of the Clinic for Anesthesiology/Intensive Therapy at SRH Wald-Klinikum Gera gGmbH.

He then moved to Klinikum Altenburger Land GmbH and became head physician of the Clinic for Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Therapy and Special Pain Medicine.

Since 2011, he has been working as chief physician in the Center for Pain and Palliative Medicine at SRH Wald-Klinikum Gera gGmbH.

Scientific awards:

  • 2001 Günther-Schlag Prize of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Experimental and Clinical Traumatology Vienna for "Studies on the site of synthesis of procalcitonin using the hepatic vein catheter technique".
  • 2014 St. Jude Medical Science Award for "Neuromodulation in chronic pain and working life - what determines quality of life?
